The Poop

Yesterday I was talking to a collegue who recommends a ultrasonic device to destroy algae.  It works in the 40watt range and the literature indicates it will remove (destroy) algae in a 8 acre pond.  Has anyone had any experience with one of these units? or a similar type method of algae control.  They are a little pricey (2,600 dollars) but would easily be a more price effective alternative over the long haul given the price of algae control chemicals.

Do a Google Search for "ultrasonic algae" for more information. My experience has been with higher power cleaning applications which would degas water during the initial application of power. However, these are low power devices that are not supposed to harm fish (which, I assume, means they are not powerful enough to degas water). Size and price are a function of the size of the body of water to be treated.

Yes, I've seen the results of the ultrasound system and it seems to do a very good job....however...the signal sound wave cannot turn a corner so it's a laminar sound flow directionally, if you have a strange elbow on a pond you would likely need two devices....
